A spark plug is made up of several parts: an electrode made from
precious metal and a ceramic insulator in a steel casing with an air
gap. When they are functioning properly, they draw an electrical charge
from the ignition coil into the combustion chamber. The ignition coil is
outside the engine and the combustion chamber is inside it. Spark plugs
bridge the gap. As the charge jumps, a spark is created that ignites the
fine mist of fuel from the injectors. Thus, creating the explosion in
the combustion chamber.

How Often are Spark Plugs Changed?
It depends on the type of plugs. Copper tip plugs are designed to last
30,000 miles. Platinum and iridium tip plugs last 100,000 miles. Rely
on the owner's manual to know which type of plugs are needed. When you

signs of erosion. But even without erosion, over time, the spark plugs
will become less effective. While not noticeable, the vehicle will be
